Change from Master’s to Ph.D. Degree

According to the Internal Regulations of the Graduate Program in Medicine and Health, students may apply for an internal transfer (change of degree level) from the Master’s to the Ph.D. of the same Program, provided that they

- have completed 12 months of academic activity in the Master’s;

- have the proposed thesis project for original analysis;

- have at least one article published in a journal with an impact factor greater than 1, having relation to the theme of the thesis;

- have not failed in any course;

- have the detailed letter sent by the advisor to the PPgMS council.

The Master's student will take the qualification exam in the presence of their advisor, where maturity, productivity, performance in the courses, and the standard of excellence in the implementation project will be considered.

Through the consensual opinion of its members and after carrying out the qualification examination of the Master's student, the Examining Committee, will forward a judgment to the PPgMS council, indicating the promotion or not of the student to the Ph.D. degree.

The Program council will approve or not the promotion of the student to the Ph.D. degree.

In addition to the criteria for degree level change, a published article originated from the thesis in a journal with an impact factor greater than one will be required for every researcher who applies for degree level change until the Ph.D. qualification.

All the necessary documentation to request a level change must be delivered to the PPgMS Secretariat at least one month in advance, in 3 spiral-bound copies.

Documentation:

Detailed letter from the advisor requesting the degree level change;

Original Doctoral Thesis Project;

Updated Lattes Curriculum with proof of the article originated from the dissertation, as well as documents that prove maturity and productivity;

Master's academic record.

The maximum term for the degree will be 48 months and the starting date will count from the date of enrollment in the Master’s.

For the scholarship holders, the rules of the funding agencies at the time of requesting the level change are still effective; we do not guarantee the maintenance of the scholarship after the level change.
